Incredible Hawaii Spring Break deal

Remember when the Brady Bunch went to Hawaii and found that idol and Greg almost died in a surfing accident?

Well now you, your six kids, and your wise-cracking housekeeper can afford to do the same!

Three nights with air to Hawaii starting at $455 a person from Pleasant Holidays. Island and lodging options vary, but kids stay free, and there’s a great rental car deal attached too if you extended the nights out.

And all during peak Spring Break dates. (Deals end March 29.)

Cheap Hawaii

The cheapest I’ve ever seen it, over at Pleasant Holidays. Three nights with air from $279.00 per person (Los Angeles and San Francisco departures only, btw. The price goes up significantly when coming from more inland locations). There are several lodging options, on several of the islands, and kids stay free on a lot of them. Book by December 18.

If you can get to L.A. or San Fran, you can get to Hawaii very, very reasonably on this deal.

Aloha, friends.

It’s called the “Gold Coast” for a reason

And that reason is awesomeness. The Diamond Head area of Waikiki beach is half off right now at the boutique hotel Lotus at Diamond Head. Just steps off the beaten path, this hotel is a quiet, lovely retreat in the middle of all that’s shiny and surf-y and sunny in Hawaii. And it starts at $149 a night. That’s a pretty amazing price for gold and diamonds.

Book by January 3.

The last of the holiday beach deals (or: Go USA!)

We’re past that point on the calendar when you can get passports for yourself and your kids in time for a tropical holiday beach vacation, at least without biting your nails at the mailbox.

Guess that leaves us with the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Luckily, we’ve got some great beaches here in the U.S. Unfortunately, us yanks ain’t known for the “whole package,” like you find in the Caribbean. The kind of vacation where you lie in a hammock, hold out your hand, and a piña colada magically drops into it is scarce here in the states.

But I know of at least three good secrets:

Florida: Just north of Jacksonville, Amelia Island Plantation offers all-inclusive packages, including green fees and carts, meals in nine restaurants, and—I am not kidding here—video game console rentals. Calling all families with teens….

Hawaii: One of the few all-inclusives on the islands (Hawaii isn’t known for this option, though I’m lobbying for change!), the Kona Village Resorts on the fabulous Big Island offer a “Togethering” package: one bungalow at the regular rate, and the second one at half off, plus meals half off, plus, well, everything half off. This is great for large, extended families who love each other very much but are not actually interested in staying in the same room together.

California: It’s technically not all-inclusive, but Paradise Point Resort and Spa in San Diego offers something worth mentioning: complimentary breakfast every morning, plus SeaWorld (which, by the way, is within walking distance of the resort).

That’s about as American “beachy” as you get. Seriously.

More winter beach deals: Hawaii

Half off Hawaii hotels at Travelocity right now. No end date on this deal, but we plugged in dates until Christmas and came up with air-flight packages as low as $700 per person for four days. You can buy hotel-only, too.

The 50 percent off deal skips across islands, with participating lodging on Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island (my personal favorite, with its diversity of ecosystems).

For travel with just grownups, check out the The Lodge at Koele, a newer Four Seasons resort on Maui, and the Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island, with its “Spa Without Walls.”

For families, I like the Castle Ocean Resort right on Waikiki Beach in Oahu, which is also within walking distance of the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Acquarium.

Hawaii isn’t always as affordable as some of the Caribbean beach spots. But this deal definitely makes it more so.

Family fun from Hawaii to Maine

Right now Delta Vacations is offering Hawaii family-style with air+hotel packages with Aston Hotels and Resorts. Islands vary by departure city, but the point is this: kids stay, play, and eat for free, and that’s better than we’re doing at home. Book by July 25, travel by March 31.

And on the opposite end of the U.S., the state of Maine is also looking to please your family. Check out the brand new Maine Woods Discovery initiative which currently offers seven family-friendly vacation packages, some all inclusive, and at least one where you’ll quarry for your own gems. (And not at the local mall, btw.)
