Greater Madison CVB

Madison is known for its mix of natural beauty and urban opportunities, robust cultural scene and award-winning restaurants.
Madison, WI is known for its cultural contributions and natural beauty, as well as being one of only two U.S. cities built on an isthmus between two lakes.  From first-time visitors to seasoned travelers who have tried every tradition, an amazing experience always awaits in Madison!

At the heart of the city lies State Capitol building. The Capitol dome reaches more than 200 feet tall, only three feet shy of the U.S. Capitol! While touring, don’t forget to visit the observation deck on the sixth floor, with stunning views of the entire city. The Capitol Square is also the perfect starting point for dining and shopping in Madison. Start by walking the square, and then head down State Street, known for its locally-owned shops and restaurants. Many of our eateries work with area farmers to ensure their ingredients are not only fresh, but sourced locally. After a great meal, shop State Street and bring home a local treasure!

Also not to be missed is the University of Wisconsin – Madison, which brings forth the city’s intellectual spirit. Touring the campus is a must for any new visitor, including the UW Arboretum, home to 1,200 acres of nature trails, and Camp Randall, a former POW camp that now houses the UW-Madison football team.  The university is home to many museums and galleries as well, and Madison has a whole has followed suit.

While in town, visit one of the many cultural outlets, including performance halls that express the culture and personality of the area. Learn about the history of the state and city at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, or see a Broadway show at the Overture Center.  The city’s cultural experiences are also family-friendly, and residents love Madison because of the mix of engaging activities for children. Visit the admission-free Henry Vilas Zoo, home to a new polar bear exhibit, or take a couple of hours to explore the interactive Madison Children’s Museum. There are also many family-friendly restaurant options in town.
