KENTUCKY

For centuries, food in Kentucky has been diverse, locally sourced and prepared fresh. Now we can brag about it.

There's no shortage of great places to enjoy fabulous food in Kentucky! Whether you're enjoying a fabulous night out, getting breakfast early in the morning or stopping over for an enjoyable lunch after biking, hiking, boating or shopping, we've got you covered.

Paducah Beer Werks, 301 N 4th St, Paducah, KY, 270-933-1265, http://www.paducahbeerwerks.com

Opened in 2015, Paducah Beer Werks (also known as PBW) has quickly become a local favorite. Featuring award-winning craft beer alongside a limited menu of mouth-watering "handmade" food including hand-tossed pizza , bratwurst and pepperoni chips. Guests are served in the casual atmosphere of a renovated Greyhound Bus station, and consistently give this restaurant pub high marks. Live music and events are also a part of this amazing food experience.

Spirits at The Miller House, 301 E 5th St., Owensboro, 270-685-5878, http://www.themillerhouserestaurant.com/spirits.html

When it comes to bourbon choices, Spirits has no rival in Kentucky. The basement cum cocktail lounge of this 110-year-old home offers more than 450 bourbon choices, the bulk of which are displayed in lighted cases along the brick walls of this historic space. It's also the meeting place of the Owensboro Bourbon Society, the largest such group in the commonwealth. Yet, while they worship brown liquor here, the food in the restaurant upstairs is pretty darn good too.

Hankering for pampering at the table? Here are some excellent restaurants in the NuLu district in downtown Louisville. Decca,  812 E. Market St., 502-749-8128, http://deccarestaurant.comRye 900 E. Market St., 502-749-6200, http://ryeonmarket.com and Mayan Café, 813 E. Market St., 502-566-0651, http://themayancafe.com are superb and innovative restaurants beloved by locals, yet not as well known to visitors.

Holly Hill Inn, 426 N Winter St, Midway, 859-846-4732, http://www.hollyhillinn.com . Chef Ouita Michael serves up dinner (and brunch on the weekends) in this rural and elegant historic property just minutes from downtown Lexington. Fine cuisine created from fresh, flavorful locally sourced food. Exquisite outdoor dinners periodically offered on weekends during the summer. Reservations recommended.

Doodle's, 262 N Limestone, Lexington, 859-317-8507, http://www.doodlesrestaurant.com .  Creole breakfast and lunch made with fresh organic ingredients, all served in the energetic atmosphere of a  repurposed car garage. A fantastic experience you're certain to enjoy.

Otto's, 521 Main St., Covington, 859-491-6678, http://ottosonmain.com . American bistro is a good way to describe this relaxed white tablecloth stop in the Mainstrasse neighborhood. The tomato pie is a great lunch choice, as is the B.L.F.G.T. (bacon, lettuce, fried green tomato, egg and cheese croissant). The Cuban sandwich is another lunchtime star, as are the braised short ribs at dinner.

The Blue Raven Restaurant & Pub, 211 Main St, Pikeville, 606-509-2583, http://theblueraven.net . Great food and atmosphere in the mountains, and within walking distance of downtown and nearby hotels. Chef Matt Corbin and his crew serve up "pub style Appalachian cuisine" in a comfortable and contemporary setting. A nice surprise for a small community, the bar and tap are great, but the real star here is definitely the food.
