From the northern sandy shores to the southern rolling hills, Indiana welcomes visitors for great summer getaways. There's something for everyone, from grownup getaways to weekends of family fun.

Sports enthusiasts and thrill seekers love a weekend in South Bend, where they can conquer the rapids of the Midwest's only urban whitewater rafting course, watch some future big-leaguers, and walk the famed grounds of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In nearby Elkhart County, there's a rural-urban fusion where you can savor Four Diamond dining in town after leisurely driving to see the Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail. Each community in Elkhart County offers an eclectic music and art scene, as well.

Travelers come from around the world to Columbus to tour the amazing mid-century modern architecture designed by the likes of I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen. History buffs are also entranced by the completely renovated hotels in French Lick: the French Lick Resort and West Baden Springs Resort.

There are also great places for family getaways. In the southern part of the state, for example, you can soar high in the air at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, home of America's first launched wing coaster, top-ranking wooden coasters and the nation's longest water slide. In the same county, you can walk in the footsteps of a young Abe Lincoln, where he spent his formative growing-up years.

In Indianapolis, you can play and learn in the world's largest children's museum, where you'll walk among the dinosaurs, ride the historic indoor carousel and have hands-on science fun. Of course, the Indiana State Parks provide miles of trails for hiking and biking, as well as opportunities for camping, fishing and boating.

Truly, the definition of Honest-to-Goodness Indiana is determined by what a visitor is seeking in a getaway. And no matter the destination or activity, you can expect a warm welcome.
