Colorful migratory birds – more than 270 different kinds – flying overhead and friendly dolphins playing in your boat wake are an irresistible combination for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

Take it all in while island hopping, walking on the wetland boardwalk at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve or gliding in a kayak among miles of tangled mangroves of the Great Calusa Blueway.Sunshine nourishes even the brightest minds. The tranquility and beauty of this place inspired iconic inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. This is where their imaginations ran wild, filling their laboratories with world-changing ideas. You can still see their work on display at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. You might just find a little inspiration yourself.
