Albuquerque: Southwest Hospitality

The Arts

Albuquerque has an abundance of art and culture to offer anyone seeking traditional or contemporary art. The thriving performing arts community is enriched by the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the National Institute of Flamenco and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra as well as the cutting-edge Tricklock Theatre Company, Keshet Dance Company and a National Poetry Slam Championship-winning team. Regularly scheduled performances are featured in the University of New Mexico's grand Popejoy Hall, the Albuquerque Little Theatre and the historic KiMo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque, as well as a variety of more intimate theater spaces.

The arts in Albuquerque are locally supported and world-renowned. Albuquerque is a neighbor to some of the world’s top-rated arts markets of Santa Fe and Taos and benefits from the rich arts in the area. In fact, Albuquerque has one of the country's oldest Public Art Programs which is apparent with the murals, statues, paintings and even bus stops all over town, from the airport to Old Town, the University and all along Route 66. With more than 100 galleries and studios, Albuquerque is thriving with visual arts, which you can sample during one of the bi-monthly ARTScrawls. In addition to silver and turquoise jewelry, traditional pottery, Spanish colonial embroidery, tinwork and other unique works, you'll find contemporary works in a variety of art styles and expressions.
