You can enjoy a fun escape while still being healthy, by selecting your vacation wisely. There are yoga retreats, fitness-focused spa resorts and even cruises catering to those who want to end the vacation at the same weight in which it began. Here, a few choices for a healthy escape.
Yoga Retreats
There are yoga centers found throughout the world, but you don’t need to go to India to enjoy a healthy retreat. There are a number of great options found in the U.S. Most yoga retreats focus on, well, yoga, but many also offer spiritual instruction, personal weight training, mediation, and blood-pumping activities like hiking and biking. The idea of mind, body and spirit is the focus at a number of centers. The more intense centers offer yoga classes ranging from one to three hours, twice a day; some centers focus solely on yoga. Two retreats that combine yoga and other fitness activities are White Lotus Foundation Retreat Center in Santa Barbara, California (Phone: 805-964-1944; Web: www.whitelotus.org) and the Feathered Pipe Ranch in Helena, Montana (Phone: 406-442-8196; Web: www.featheredpipe.com). These centers offer a combination of yoga classes and spiritual training as well as recreational activities such as music, dance and hiking.
