Christmas Lights Bonanaza
In addition to the Hershey characters that walk around the park, there are elves working the crowd and of course pictures with Santa and his nine reindeer. Families can also enjoy the Music Box Christmas Show and browse through the Hershey shops stocked with holiday gear. Christmas music is played in the park and the red and green theme is carried throughout the experience. The lights and Christmas decorations of the park is held through January 1. While the park normally charges an admission fee in the summer months, during Candylane season, the park entrance fee is waived. That means families of all sizes can enjoy the holiday magic for free (but rides are pay as you go). Zoo America also gets into the spirit for the holidays. Light displays can be seen throughout the zoo.
Then there’s Hershey Sweet Lights, a Christmas light bonanza. This is located two miles from Hersheypark and The Hotel Hershey. Over one million lights are used to display 600 animated holiday themes in this two-mile experience. For $15 a car, families drive past creative displays depicting the holiday season; the drive usually lasts about 45 minutes. There’s a reenactment of the Twelve Days of Christmas (complete with twelve lords leaping, nine drummers drumming and a partridge in a pear tree), as well as fairytales decked out for the holidays including The Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe and Princess and the Pea. For a complete holiday experience, families have the option of listening to Christmas music as they slowly drive past the displays. On a local station holiday music is played nonstop; signs with the station information are displayed at the beginning of the Sweet Lights display.
