Where to Stay
The Emerson Resort & Spa (www.emersonresort.com; (877) 688-2828), which reopened in 2007, offers two different experiences for visitors exploring the Hudson Valley. This resort is located near the Esopus Creek (there's a wonderful walking path along the water) and overlooks the majestic Mount Tremper. Shoppers will love visiting nearby Woodstock, America's favorite small town, and outdoor enthusiasts can explore hiking, biking, skiing and other activities in nearby Belleayre Mountains.
The resort consists of two separate accommodations: the inn and the lodge. The inn is an upscale, adults-only retreat consisting of 26 luxury suites, varying in size from 620 to 1,000 square feet. The suites have private, outdoor decks, a selection of 24 bottles of in-room wine, 32-inch flat-screen televisions with DVD players, and in-room fireplaces. The inn is decorated with Asian accents throughout, most notably artifacts that play homage to India. Couples will love the two-person Jacuzzi bathtubs, the rainforest showerheads and the plush robes and slippers. This is the place to come for romance. The lodge is the family-friendly part of the accommodation and is surrounded by tall pines and maple trees. It's built in a traditional Adirondack-style with a rustic woodsy cabin feel. This is for those families that want a true Adirondack experience. Many of the 27 rooms at the lodge have outdoor decks. The rooms also have 26-inch flat screen televisions, minibars, robes and slippers, and high-speed Internet access. The lobby has a large fireplace.
