Tennessee is a great state for a summer road trip. They have everything from wet and wild water fun, great camping and outdoor recreation, an amazing zoo and some great music. What’s not to love?
Hit the Water
Whether you have a full week or only a few days to get away, saturate your summer vacation with Tennessee. Suit up with your family in West Tennessee and start relaxing at Reelfoot Lake State Park. Known as the only natural lake in Tennessee, Reelfoot is home to almost every kind of shore and wading bird as well as the golden and American bald eagles. Your stop here could last a day or the whole week. Continue the wet and wildlife plunge at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge in Paris, Tennessee. Among the many other wildlife and nature opportunities, this wildlife refuge offers terrific fishing and waterfowl-hunting opportunities.
For a little less exotic but an equally exciting water destination, continue with the family to Nashville Shores Outdoor Water Park. With seven large waterslides, a beach and a tropical lagoon, Nashville Shores is one of the wettest experiences in Tennessee. For something a little more serene, venture to Dale Hollow Lake. With clean and scenic camping facilities, a fisherman’s and photographer’s paradise and a multitude of water sports, Dale Hollow is an ideal destination for a family vacation.
Lastly, make a big splash in East Tennessee. Raft the Nolichucky River at Cherokee Adventures. Venture through class III and IV with a guide, or take a gentle float trip with the family. Hit a few more rivers before your vacation is over. Raft the Nantahala, the Lower and upper Pigeon and Ocoee Rivers. No matter your experience level, everyone in your family will enjoy either one of these rafting trips.
