Cool happenings: From mid-April through mid-June this popular but pricey island becomes a bit more affordable. Lahaina, a funky town kids of all ages will love exploring, celebrates the whales’ migration with an Ocean Arts Festival March 9-12. During the last two weeks of May, artisans launch hand-carved canoes into the sea for the International Canoe Festival. For sky-high adventure, head to Haleakala, a dormant volcano with spectacular sunrises and sunsets ($10 per car).
